Do you have a Fanny? I found where you can get rid of it!

Saw this on a side street when I was on the coast the other day – made me chuckle to myself. It has to be deliberate mustn’t it?

Working away

17 11 2009

Two projects I have worked on are coming to a close at last. I was away the other day training the end users how to use the software. The software is straight forward and easy to use but still people they feel they need to be shown what to do!

Stayed in the usual hotel last night but had a shockingly small room. Excuse the description of the bathroom but it will give you an idea of the size of the room. I can have a pee but without taking any steps, rotate 180 degrees and wash my hands in the sink on the opposite wall!
There is an extractor fan that sounds like a wood plainer when it is switched on, and more mould and weird growth in the shower that would keep a lab experimenting for months.

The person in travelled with is next door and is in the honeymoon suite! Just my luck! He has a jacuzzi and a room nearly 4 times the size of mine – grrrrrrr.

The seaside town we are at is really run down, there are loads of down and outs roaming around and almost every other shop is boarded up! On the local news last night they were saying they have a 3.6 million grant to restore the fairground area. From what I can see, it will take a whole lot more than that.

I used to come here as a kid and loved it. I wonder how many other traditional British seaside resorts are this rundown. Maybe with the credit crunch, people will start holidaying in this country again and more money will be made available. Problem is they need to spend money to make money. I certainly wouldn’t want to spend more than a day here! Shame but true.

Switch it off!

9 11 2009

lorry150Popped to the Somerfields supermarket tonight for a few essentials and sitting outside when I went in was a huge class 1 truck with it engine running. I noticed it because how fast it was ticking over and the noise it was making. I then noticed the driver was eating a batch so I presumed he was maybe warming up the truck before setting off, which he would do once finishing his batch. I was in the shop a good 10 minutes and when I came out he was still there but now reading the newspaper!

Please, if you are waiting for any reason at all, car or lorry, turn off your engine.

It isn’t his diesel or his engine he is ruining, it is just his planet! Grr grrr.

Decorating – day 3 & 4

5 11 2009

Day 3 & 4 are pretty much the same. Paint, fill, dry, paint, fill, dry, yada yada yada. But, all done now ( apart from gloss, going to wait until I have date for new carpet). So tomorrow is a do what I want day. Whoop.

Problem is, she who must be obeyed is none to well and will need my full care and attention. Which is ok because I don’t like doing much without her any way.

Maybe a bit of xbox between love and attention.

Please note new Twitter thingy, top right. Follow me if you have an account please.

Decorating holiday

2 11 2009

thatched_cottageI am taking this week off from work to do more work! I need to finish off the house – only 2 rooms to go.

So far we have decorated all the upstairs rooms, fitted new interior doors throughout the whole house and completed the hall and stairs (apart from new carpet).

Today I started on the front room. Not too much to do, mostly painting and just a bit of papering. I also decided to round the room off by coving the ceiling. If we were planning on staying in this house, I would put back the picture rail that has obviously been taken down. Who ever did the filling of holes and bumps etc on this house last must have just used his hands, it is shocking. You cannot believe how badly someone can fill a hole and botch up the finish!

The end result will be very plain, magnolia world! Makes it easier when we come to sell.

I am looking forward to moving to our next house – hopefully my last move ever. I want to be able to do all the things that I like in a house and not worry about making do and painting everything to suit the next person buying. Our next house will be a cottage and I want to return or make sure I keep all the features a cottage should have. Any way, knackered now so off to rest the back.

What a week!

25 10 2009

ross-brawn Busy busy busy at work so haven’t done much blogging – poor excuse I know.

Last weekend was busy and it was the GP as well. A very exciting race, edge of the seat stuff. But Button, the driver I have followed since he came to F1 finally took the world championship. What a nice bloke. What a nice bloke Ross Brawn is as well. A breath of fresh air to the constructors. Not many will address the audience but Ross Brawn does and he also gives stuff away like what problems they have had or what their stop strategy will be.

One of my favourite part of the show is Martin Brundles grid walk. This year he has excelled himself, pissed off one of the Sky presenters at least twice by butting in on their interview. Because he was a really liked driver himself he gets to interview the current drivers that I am sure would otherwise ignore the presenter.

The new BBC presenter, Jake Humphrey’s has also grown on me. I didn’t like him initially, he came out with phrases like ‘qualy’ for qualifying and I just felt he didn’t really know what he was talking about. But after reading his blog and following him on Twitter, he has proven himself to me.

One last race to go for the year and I am sure it will be a good one, no one has anything to lose so I am expecting them all to really go for it – except Button.

Winter – I know this probably sounds a bit stupid, but I hadn’t realised how wintery it was getting, I have been getting to work in the dark, sitting at my desk all day barely looking outside. Then getting home, cooking tea etc etc and doing a bit more work maybe. But hadn’t really noticed how the leaves had fallen from the trees or had noticed but just hadn’t taken it in. Where did the Summer go?

Off to lunch today with friends. Never met my mates Mrs before and feel quite nervous. I had lost touch with my friend, hadn’t seen him for nearly 10 years. We used to be very good friends but circumstances and relationships got in the way so we drifted apart. What will we talk about!! Luckily meeting on neutral ground so we both have the excuse to leave when we want to.

Any way, must go and get ready, got shopping to do and go see my Ma and Pa before going to lunch.

Later dudes.

Not sure what weight I am at the moment but I am guessing it isn’t good, not been sticking to the diet. We went back to imperial measure as well I discovered a couple of nights ago – yes!

Google Wave – I am impressed and disappointed all at the same time

17 10 2009

google wave-logo

I watched an online video about a new Google application called Google Wave. It is amazing! It could completely change the way I currently work and email etc etc. You need to check out the video to find out all the features but essentially they have reinvented email! Well it is how email would be if it was invented today. It kind of includes all social media tools and also a way to share and collaborate  with document. Several people can add and comment and edit the same document at the same time! You can build galleries sooo easy and share the images with others to build a common gallery etc.

That was the impressed bit, but the reason am disappointed is because you have to have an invite to join in the trials – I am still waiting!

It sounds boring and crap when I describe it here but have a look, it is most spectacular.
